As an association of public safety service providers, Mendocino County Association of Fire Districts (MCAFD) exists to promote and sustain effectiveness of local county fire districts and unincorporated county fire departments at performing their critical fire, rescue and medical aid operations.
Local fire districts face training requirements and equipment costs that increase on a yearly basis. The amount of State tax revenue returned to the rural fire districts has not increased although the cost of operating these districts has continued to increase.
The Mendocino County BOS as an institution, has failed to safeguard the public trust in its refusal to provide equitable funding derived from the voter-approved Proposition 172 sales tax initiative.
